Keeping It Cool 101: Eastside Edition

Is it me or is it getting hotter? As we get further into the Summer months, it is a top priority that everyone stays safe and cool when getting around town. Read on to for some Smart Tips on how to stay comfortable as you walk, bike, and ride through Austin.

Tip #1: Stay hydrated.

The best way to stay hydrated is to listen to your body to gauge how much water you should be drinking. Biking or walking all day? Drink more water. Hanging out at the local park with some friends? Drink about a cup (8 oz) of water every 30 minutes. No matter what, make sure to take breaks throughout the day. Even the Sun takes a break every night.

Summer is the best time to explore all of the outdoor activities that Austin has to offer. Don’t forget when planning your day to find walking and biking routes that have more shade or head out during cooler times of the day, such as early morning or late evenings.

Tip #3: Dress To Protect.

The Sun is usually our friend, but sometimes it can also be our enemy. When enjoying time outdoors don’t forget to protect your skin. Protect your skin with sunscreen and a hat or bandana. Make sure to also wear loose clothing and accessories that protect your neck, shoulders, and back from the sun.

Hashtag life hack alert!

Does the Sun feel like it is biking next to you? Freeze a damp bandana or small towel, place it on your neck or arms, and relax.
