This year, the City of Austin and Capital Metro have partnered together to bring the Smart Trips Austin program to northwest Austin. The program will help residents try new transportation options through personalized communications and community engagement, the distribution of customized information and incentives, and fun events like walks, bike rides, scooter tours, and transit adventures.
Smart Trips Austin is currently hiring two full-time, Community Outreach Ambassadors to guide residents in using new transportation options and plan our transportation and tabling events. The Outreach Ambassadors will be hired and managed by Cortez Consulting and will work closely with the Project Team (Austin Transportation Department, Capital Metro and Alta Planning + Design).
OUTREACH AMBASSADOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Community Outreach Ambassadors will be responsible for laying the foundation for a successful program. Some of the duties and responsibilities include:
- Create and implement engagement strategies for the Smart Trips Austin program both in-person and online to convey the ease, benefits and importance of using sustainable transportation options;
- Schedule and attend community meetings, neighborhood meetings, business associations and school events/presentations to promote the Smart Trips Austin program and encourage resident participation;
- Provide information and resources about multi-modal transportation options and serve as a contact/reference to answer questions about transportation options and distribute transportation information;
- Serve as contact for local organizations and residents to learn about and partner with the Smart Trips Austin Program;
- Identify and establish partnerships with the community for future educational transportation events in the program area;
- Plan and execute community events such as: group bike rides and trainings, themed walks, transit adventures, and scooter tours;
- Maintain a high-level of professionalism and represent the Smart Trips Austin and its program partners in a positive, responsible and professional manner.
Candidates must possess the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university/college;
- Prior experience coordinating community outreach and engagement programs;
- Comfortable and confident working with the public including diverse communities;
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team;
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
- Ability to prioritize projects, strong problem-solving skills, and detail oriented;
- Available to work a combination of weekend, evening, and daytime hours;
- Familiar using sustainable transportation options including: walking, bicycling, transit, micro mobility options, rideshare, and other tools and programs;
- Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and passionate about positive change in our society;
- Enthusiastic about transportation, civic affairs, and helping community members;
- Experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google, email communication;
- Ability to pass a Federal Fingerprint-Based Background Check, as part of the onboarding and final hiring process, the results of which would show no criminal history that would restrict the candidate from working with vulnerable populations.
Fluent in Spanish with ability to read, write and present;
- Involved resident with familiarity of Northwest Austin neighborhoods;
- Experience with public outreach initiatives specifically involving transportation;
- Experienced cycling in urban traffic, owns a bicycle in good working condition and safety equipment.
This is a temporary, full-time position with health benefits. The hourly range for the position is $17.00–$20.00/hour. Position ends mid-December 2020.
