Weekend Adventure: Keep Austin Playing

Smart Trips Austin Presents: How to get to Keep Austin Playing using Active Transportation

Going to Keep Austin Playing and wondering how to get there using active transportation? Smart Trips Austin is here to help!

Keep Austin Playing is a FREE citywide interactive play date created by the Austin Parks and Recreation Department to enrich, educate and empower the Austin Community to cultivate healthy lifestyle changes. Active transportation not only improves our health, but the health of our communities. Let’s run through the options.

Location: Palmer Events Center (900 Barton Springs Rd, Austin, TX 78704)

Time: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Choose your mode: BUS — BIKE — WALK — CARPOOL/RIDESHARE — MICRO-MOBILITY

BUS:

While finding parking in downtown Austin can be a challenge, finding a transit line that gets you there is easy! Try transit to and from the Palmer Events Center. It costs less than covered parking and you’ll avoid circling looking for a spot. Nearby transit stops include Viv Mathias/Auditorium Shores, S 1st/Barton Springs, and Barton Springs Station or take any downtown route to Republic Square Park and walk across the First Street Bridge.

Transit Routes: 1, 3, 7, 10, 20, 30, 801, 803, 980 and 985 will get you there!

BIKE:

Sitting in traffic on a Saturday morning is no way to start your weekend. You can beat the traffic and avoid congestion by biking to your weekend activities instead. Use Google Maps in Bicycle Mode to find bike-friendly lanes, routes, and trails that lead right to Palmer Events Center. One route Smart Trips recently rode was the Boardwalk Trail at Lady Bird Lake. The trail is right along the water and offers some beautiful city views.

Once you arrive, Palmer Events Center has bicycle racks outside the North and South entrances of the parking garage for safekeeping. Don’t forget to bring a lock! If you don’t have a bike, find a B-Cycle Station near you.

WALK:

Grab a friend and walk along the Ann and Roy Butler Hike & Bike Trail. Our weeks get busy and we don’t always make time for a leisurely stroll on this enchanting trail. With water fountains, restroom facilities, access points, and parking along the route, the trail is an easy choice!

CARPOOL & RIDESHARE:

Connect with your neighbors for a sustainable commute. Check out myCommuteSolutions to learn how to carpool with others going to the same destination. If route planning is not for you and you have access to a smart phone, ride-hailing apps make door-to-door service easy.

MICRO-MOBILITY DEVICES:

From dockless electric bikes to colorful scooters, you have options for those shorter trips. Sign up for our toolkit to receive promocodes or Check out our shared active transportation resources page for information on the various electric bikes and electric scooters available.
